  • Baze v. Rees (U.S. Supreme Court, April 16, 2008) Criminal, Constitutional Law. 5-2 decision that Kentucky's procedures on lethal injection death penalty does not breach the 8th Amendment's ban on cruel & unusual punishment.
  • CinnectU v Zuckerberg (U.S. 1st Cir., Apr. 3, 2008) Former Harvard students suing Facebook founder Zuckerberg had previously seen their case dismissed on jurisdictional grounds. This decision reversed that and remanded the matter back to the District Court for consideration.
  • Boehner v McDermott (U.S. Dist. Ct., D.C., Mar. 31, 2008) Congressman John Boehner (Rep. - Ohio) has been awarded legal fees totaling $1,053,181.78, plus interest for Congressman McDermott's (Dem. - Wash.) violation of the federal wiretapping statute by disclosing to reporters a tape recording of an illegally intercepted conversation in which Congressman Boehner participated.

    05/15/08 (TX): What Attorneys Want Dallas branch of FEWA have organized a lecture from Diane Sumoski, attorney, who co-chairs the Expert Witnesses Committee of ABA Section of Litigation.
    06/19-20/2008 (MA): SEAK 17th Annual National Expert Witness Conference. Nationally recognized attorneys, experts, judges, and educators will discuss all aspects of expert witness testimony, ethics, and trial techniques. Faculty this year includes four distinguished judges. Conference also offers continuing education credits.

    4/18/08 (NY): Experts Clash in Rowling Trial. As new witnesses took the stand on the second day of the Rowling/Warner Brothers trial against RDR Books, discussion moved to the usefulness of the Harry Potter Lexicon, the potential advantages of its being first to market, and the degree to which the book might affect sales of Rowling's own long-planned Potter encyclopedia


    4/14/08 (UT): Parents Try To Sue Expert Who Changed His Mind Thomas and Karol Pace sued anesthesiologist Stephen Shuput, MD, after their daughter died following a relatively straightforward breast augmentation procedure. The suit was based upon the standard of care given to their daughter and, crucially, his decision to discharge her from hospital.


    04/10/08 (UK): Computer Expert Escapes Jail The founding father of the UK's computer forensic industry was today sentenced at Leicester Crown Court for making false witness statements and committing perjury.


    04/05/08 (AR): 50% of Gang Shooting Victims Are Bystanders, Says Expert. Daniel Francis was killed whilst he was a passenger in a car being driven by a co-worker in Bentonville, Arkansas. He was shot to the back of the head, say prosecutors, by Serafin Sandoval-Vega, as part of a gang initiation.


    04/01/08 (TX): Arson Expert Testifies In Murder Case A jury has found Rhonda Orr guilty of setting the fire that killed her disabled husband five years ago. The jury took just two hours to reach its unanimous verdict.


    03/28/08 (IL): Judge's Error in Not Allowing Experts Overturns Conviction Michael Cardamore's conviction for sexually molesting seven young girls has been overturned by the Second District Appellate Court. He had received a 20 year prison sentence for the crimes which included aggravated criminal sexual abuse at his family owned gym in Aurora between 1999 and 2002.
