District of Columbia v Heller (U.S. Supreme Court, June 26, 2008) - In a close run 5-4 opinion written by Justice Scalia, the U.S. Supreme Court overturns D.C.'s 32-year-old ban on handgun possession in one's home, ruling that the law violates the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Davis v Federal Election Commission (U.S. Supreme Court, June 26, 2008) - Another 5-4 decision in which the Court struck down the "millionaire's amendment" as an unfair way to help opponents of wealthy electoral candidates who spend from their personal fortunes.
