  • Massachusetts v EPA Supreme Court marginally rules in favor of states and various environmental groups who allege the EPA has abrogated its responsibilities under the Clean Air Act. The case has now been returned to the lower court for further review.
  • Fen-Phen Settlement - trial ordered The law firm that negotiated the settlement with a diet drug manufacturer has been ordered to stand trial amid allegations of impropriety over the way in which its share of the settlement was increased.
  • Rockwell v U.S. Supreme Court decision makes it harder for whistle-blowers to share in the proceeds from fraud lawsuits against government contractors.

    4/05/07 (WV): Doctors’ Survey Gives Food For Thought Amid some controversy, a new survey reveals that most WV physician specialists question expert testimony if it is outside a doctor's specialty or is tainted by financial incentives.


    4/06/07 (CA): Spector Trial: Experts Fees To Be Disclosed Prosecutors in the Phil Spector murder case filed a motion today asking that the defense team be ordered to disclose the fees that its expert witnesses are being paid before they take the stand in the music producer's trial.

    4/04/07 (PA): Judge Throws Out Civil Rights Verdict A federal magistrate judge has granted the city of Philadelphia's motion for judgment as a matter of law in a federal civil rights action brought by a woman who alleged the city's police department had a policy of customarily closing sexual assault complaints.

    4/04/07 (ME): Crime Scene Expert Contradicts Defense There was no pool of blood found in Crystal Perry's kitchen or the knife drawer, a crime scene expert has testified at the murder trial of Michael Hutchinson, accused of stabbing her more than 50 times in 1994.


    3/26/07 (TN): Hollow Victory For Inmate Still On Death Row Despite a Supreme Court ruling referring to "conflicting evidence" at his original trial, Paul Gregory House remains on death row.

    3/24/07 (MD): Suicide Of ‘Expert’ Leads To Doubts A fake 'expert' has killed himself when suspicions were raised about his credentials. Joseph Kopera testified in numerous trials as a Maryland State ballistics expert, and his death has led to calls for a review of the cases in which he was involved.
