Motive clearly played a major part in the jury’s deliberations as Michael Goodwin was convicted of the 1988 killing of racing legend Mickey Thompson & his wife. Expert evidence relating to a questionable 13 year old identification was apparently disregarded.

01/02/07 (TX): State Insanity Laws Flawed? The Mental Health Association of Greater Houston is advocating a in change in the state's insanity defense statute. The trials of housewife Andrea Yates for the 2001 drowning of her five children should, say the MHA, convince everyone that change is needed.

12/29/06 (WV): Supreme Court of Appeals of WV Rules Expert Wrongly Excluded The Justices reversed the drunken driving conviction of Michael Doonan, finding that Magistrate Emily Bradley improperly excluded Doonan's expert witness.

Crying Woman 12/27/06 (OH): Expert’s Opinion on Battered Woman Syndrome Allowed The Ohio Supreme Court has ruled that prosecutors can present evidence of battered woman syndrome when the credibility of a domestic violence victim is challenged, saying that evidence establishing the cycles of battering in a relationship is an appropriate basis for such testimony.
